One does not need to play the piano to appreciate the beauty of Claude Debussy's "Clair de Lune" but this video certainly helps a non-player to appreciate the complexity of this seemingly simple piece of music.
Composition began when Debussy was only 28 years of age and the first publication was in 1905. "Clair de Lune", which is French for moonlight, is the third movement in the four movement Suite Bergamasque.
The piece is written in 9/8 time and is played quietly and slowly. The lush chords and moving bass line make this a perfect piece to orchestrate for ensembles and various orchestrations have appeared in film for decades.
